Is DeepSeek's cheap AI actually a threat to Anthropic?

On October 20th, DeepSeek open-sourced DeepInfer, the engine behind its AI services, and said one cluster can serve 155 trillion tokens a day while earning $38 per GPU per hour. The consensus reaction was that cheap AI is here to stay and that Anthropic’s lead has shrunk. I pay for Claude Code every month, so I made a video to check how much of that actually holds up.

The video gets into what DeepSeek actually released, why a token costs money in the first place, and what my own last month of Claude Code would cost running on DeepSeek instead. It also covers where a good harness closes most of the gap for cheaper models, where the hype overreaches, and the question that might matter more than the price: who owns the chips and who has the power, the US or China.
